Slow ISP Dial-Up Connection

I just purchased a new computer with Windows XP. I
reinstalled my ISP dial-up connection software and now it
takes almost a minute once I click on connect to actually
start dialing. With my old computer with Windows 98,
there was almost an immediate connection. Can anyone help
me? Thanks.

Many factors can affect this, including modem compatibility, between you
and ISP.
