I'm a volunteer NW-Admin in our local church
We have a Windows 2000 Server with SP4
We use File Shares on the server to store and backup data
We are currently replacing older Win98SE & Win95 (!) clients w/WinXP-Pro-SP2
clients.
From the new clients (Dell Dimension 3000 w/WinXP-Pro-SP2), when doing an
Open, Update, or Close operation on a file on the file server, it is VERY
SLOW.
Can anyone advise on how to speed up File Share access on a Win2K-Server
from a WinXP-Pro client? Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi,

I have had similar problems in the past. To fix it, I updated the NIC
drivers on the server and the clients. I also found, and it is MS
recommended now, to hard set the duplexing speed. So, if you have GB NIC's
and switches, set the duplexing to that speed.

Thanks Matt, I'll check my drivers.
Just got the new Client from Dell, so they're 'probably' up to date.
