Slow calculation in 2003

I had Excel 97 until 1 week ago, now I have installed 2003 and the
calculations seems to be a lot slower than 97, for example if I try to
filter a common reference and delete all of them(usually large files), it
can take 5 to 10 minutes to finish, also I copy a formula down to many lines
and again takes 5 to 10 minutes to finish.
Does somebody knows if I have to change something or it's simply the right
way to do it.
