Slow as hell... is xp worth it

Basically comp - 2400+ X
Anyone tell me why after only installing a handful of programs, it now runs like a bag of crap. Downloaded media player 9 upgrade and now feeling the 'great' benefits. Comp runs slow, takes forever to play a music file and have now resulted in dloading real player. Brand new comp, cant really understand why it runs slow slow
 
You need to go into the Microsoft web site and do a search for slow computer
and see what you can find.

Some suggestions. Make sure all of your memory is functioning.

Do a full virus scan. Download and adaware and spybot to see if anything is
clogging the system.

Clean up your hard drive. Use IE to clean out temporary interent files.
Under start-help-tools, do a disk clean up and disk defrag.

Check what programs running at start up and how many processes are going.

XP should be fast on a new computer and clearly, something is wrong on
yours.

Windows XP requires at least 256MB of good RAM, 512MB is better. It also should have at least a decent 16 or better yet 32MB video card to run smoothly. Your AMD processor is good, but check up that your other hardware meets the high expectations of Windows XP (when i bought my new Radeon9600 Pro I found an improvement in smoothness in graphical areas of windows)
