My D-Link 804HV four port wired router had some sort of failure. I
just couldn't get it working properly, so I replaced it. Then I
decided to experiment with the failed router. I connected it directly
to a laptop with no modem, just a local network of one PC. I reset it
to factory defaults. Then I disabled DHCP and set the IP address to
one consistent with the network that is connected to my cable modem.
Then I connected it to my main router LAN port to LAN port. So now I
had the failed router connected to my main network as a switch with my
laptop connected to a LAN port.
Everything works as expected except the PC connected to the 804HV
"switch" has an Internet download speed about 1/10 of the PCs on the
main network. The 804HV definitely has some kind of problem.
Routers are cheap and this one is a "throw away", but I am curious
about what could be causing such poor performance? (I forgot to
mention that I also upgraded the firmware to the latest from D-Link.)
Any insight will be appreciated, jimbo
