When I select My computer it can take 30 minutes for windows to display any
information. If you request properties on the drive it takes another 30
minutes. What gives?

What have you tried?

Disk clean up, Defrag...?

Adware/spyware cleaners?

Virus scans?

if none, try all of these, but back up your data first...

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for when the problem occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and

First thank you for answers. I found this problem when the HD was running
out of space. I thought it was a space issue and enlorged the partition with
partition magic. That did not help the speed. All of this was done after
virus canning, spyware scaning, and backing up. The interesting thing is
defraging takes very long and i think it is tied to this problem. On the
last note the rest of the pc work great.

You need to answer the questions in my last post if I am
to help.

Running Disk Defragmenter can take quite time if it has
not been done for some time. You also need at least 15%
free space in the parition being defragmented.

How large is each partition of and how much free space
in each partition?

Hope this helps.

Gerry,

The existing partition are now 60G and 40G with the OS on the 60G. It has
50% used. I now the disk defrag takes a long time, just not three days.
Before this problem I had run it and it took half a day.

Thank you,

TH

What RAM memory and what CPU processor speed?

To increase you free space on your C select Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System Restore and
remove all but the latest System Restore points? Restore points can be quite
large.

You should use Disk CleanUp regularly to Empty your Recycle Bin and
Remove Temporary Internet Files. Whenever you remove redundant files you
should always run Disk Defragmenter by selecting Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.

I would suggest you try cCleaner.

With any cleaner you need to proceed with caution. I invariably
recommend creating a restore point before using cCleaner.
cCleaner also offers backup before removal.
