I am running WinXP Home and lately, it is taking about 45 seconds for Word
to start.
Other Office apps start fine, and I did a repair, which didn't help.
I have current virus protection and have run the latest copies of Ad-Aware
and Spybot.
I've done chkdsk and cleaned out all old garbage.
So far, no luck.
Does anyone have a clue as to why only Word is so sluggish???

Thanks,

You're in the wrong newsgroup to ask about Word. The Word experts are here:

Don't be put off by "new users".

Thanks for the reply. I will post it in that newsgroup, however, the problem
COULD be due to XP, i.e., XP patch, etc.
Hopefully, I will not be accused of cross-posting!

Hi, Dave.

Crossposting is encouraged - when necessary and when the newsgroups are
chosen intelligently.

Multi-posting is discouraged. That's when the same message is sent
separately to multiple newsgroups and we wind up reading the same question
over and over in every group we visit.

When you MUST post the same message to multiple NGs, put all the NG names in
the address space of a single message. Then it will appear in all those
groups, but when I read it in one, it will be marked "Read" - for me - in
all of them. The payoff for you is that all the responses will appear in a
single coherent thread which you can read from any of the NGs; you won't
have to check them all. And an inaccurate or incomplete reply in one NG can
be corrected or completed by readers in a different NG.

Indiscriminate crossposting OR multi-posting to many NGs, including groups
unrelated to the subject, is definitely discouraged!

Thank you for a cogent explanation!
I have not seen this information elsewhere (although I may not have been
looking in the correct places!)
and it clearly explains the situation.
