Slipstream Question

Having slipstreamed a Windows XP Home Edition retail upgrade CD (first
release) adding SP2 the process seemed to be successful in that the CD
boots as expected. I have not attempted to install it however. My
intent is to be able to install it on either one of two systems each
having the same software version indicated above. I have the Product
Keys for each system. Noting that the Product ID is different on the
two systems I am somewhat concerned that this might be a problem as
during the install there is no provision to enter the Product ID number.
I suspect that the Product Key entered will resolve this but I would
like to confirm that.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The product keys are not on the CDs and assuming that both product keys are
XP Home Retail Upgrade ones, there should be no reason why the same CD
wouldn't work for both of them.

Yes, I am familiar with the Product Keys. I would expect to have to enter
the proper/correct Product Key for a given PC as in a 'normal' installation
and I'm fine with that. My only concern was about the Product ID number
that
is reported in System Properties and elsewhere. This number is somewhat
different on the two systems that I have been looking at. Somewhere I read
that the Product Key entered will establish the Product ID number (a twenty
digit number in my case) but I cannot confirm that.

That is correct. The Product I.D. value (it is not always 100%
numeric) is derived from but is not identical to the Product Key.

Good luck
