Just having a lot of problems with these modes on a laptop. It hangs every
time I try to resume.

Just wondering if there were particular process or processes used in the
resume sequence so I can try and sort out the problem.

Does anyone know?

Your Hibernation folder may need to be emptied and refreshed.

Open your Control Panel and select Power Options >
Hibernate and uncheck the box next to "Enable Hibernation"
and click "apply".

Next, perform a Disk Cleanup:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

Afterward, reboot your computer. Go back and enable Hibernation
and reboot once again and you'll have a new Hibernation File.

Hi Carey

I have a similar problem to what Steve described below. My Standby issue is
this:

When I manually go into Standby with the power adapter plugged in to my Dell
C840 P4 it gets very sluggish/freezes up when I come out. No problem if I
unplug the adapter and go into standy. When coming out of Standy with
Adapter plugged in or not everything is fine.

This has happened on two C840's, and two different drives both running XP pro.

Any idea how to correct this.
