Been doing networking at college and our teacher told us of a site which checks all the ports on your computer. I find this very interesting information and hope you wouldn't mind if I shared the site with you just incase anyone would like to know how safe their ports are on their computer.

Intriguing this website, so i had a little looksee....

Well i'm happy my pc returned a perfect true stealth rating on every test, the site couldn't even see my computer in fact it didn't exist according to this websites tests.:D

Probably due to me running a hardware firewall and software firewall suite behind that.....:)

hmmm nice
passed the test with complete stealth and thats with having only
windows xp firewall nothing else

Dear Adywebb

I checked again on the 2 sites you suggested and again came through with no problems!

Kind regards

The sygate scan is a clever application, luckily my router and firewall seem to do the job :)

Dear Adywebb

After the recent 'mare I had with my PC that Mucks very kindly helped me with, I am interested to make sure that all's working well!!

The thing I really like about this site is the honest advice people give and the fact that whatever your knowledge level, you are not made to feel like a complete prat!!!

Thanks for your helpful websites.

Kind regards

Gabriella x

What the hell is TCP 135? What has it got to do with PPP and SLIP!?!?
Is it a good idea to close TCP 135 and un-share the whole of my computer and remove the default password?
Security confuses me?
XD

TCP 135 is that Outlook contacts Exchange on TCP port 135
ppp Short for Point-to-Point Protocol
slip Short for Serial Line Internet Protocol, its to do with your ports.
you have from 0-65535 ports on your computer which you can't see.
if you have a open port that how you can get a virus.
using the sites below

https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

also the ones Adywebb posted below
http://www.pcflank.com/
http://scan.sygate.com/

by does these test it well show if you have any ports
open on computer. its best to proect your computer as much as you can.

I was however joking - sarcasm doesn;t really show up toow ell on the internet XD
Also I was refering to netBIOS hence the bit about un-sharing the whole of me compu...oh never mind :D
It's been ages since I looked at secuirty - but my brother has a l00nix box running IPCop in a SPI mode with IDS - snort I think - t3h secur3z!

Hi Gabriella

I agree, some sites seem to assume that everyone is already some kind of expert, whereas here everyone seems to know a little bit about something and is willing to help without being condescending

I must admit PC security is very high on my priority list, and I am always looking for good hints and tips to keep it that way

Its also nice when you get thanks for helping!!
