site links-connection objects

What is the difference between a site link, in Inter-site
transport(Sites and Services MMC) and a connection object
found under NTDS associated with the DC's?
 
A site link is the link used to replicate between sites. The transport is
the protocol used to to replicate the data over the site link. The
