Since "data file did not close properly" is so pervasive...

I have been working on two machines with errors and can never seem to reach a
solution.

If I KNEW the files names...of all the data files Outlook 2007 is using and
is involved in the error - or any thing including the registry - using
Process Explorer/Monitor I might be able to find what is causing it.

There has got to be quicker way to solve this. If we can monitor the data
files, then see what gets hung, and trace it back maybe we can solve it.
Sounds like and idea for a utility to me Microsoft!!!

What files are involved in this error - Outllook files?

Data files; your connected pst-files or ost-files.
A "utility" like that already exists; File-> Data File Management

Anyway;
Your issue suspects an Outlook shutdown issue.

Make sure you close all applications before shutting down your computer to
make sure no files remain open or applications needing to be killed when
shutting down.

Additionally, verify that the outlook.exe process actually stops when
closing down Outlook. There are several addins which can cause Outlook not
to close completely even when you close the main Outlook window.

Is the only "file" associated with the data the OST file in File ->
DataFileManagement? When I watch this process with Process Monitor I
see Outlook.exe even accessing Index.dat and writing to it. That is
why I was asking.

I have made sure all programs are closed. I have made sure Outlook.exe
is closed. It doesn't matter.

I will look into other programs.
