I have a laptop that I use to transfer file from home Win 98 to office
WinXP.

Win 98 keeps the workstation names nice and neat as //ABC/C
WinXP keeps the workstation names as //ABC (abc(abc))

Anyway to tidy up the Win XP workstation names in network neighbourhood?

Also Win keeps the network neighbourhood nice and neat: when I remove the
laptop from the network, its icon will disappear from network neighbourhood.

WinXP keeps all the names of the old workstations in the network
neighbourhood and refuses to update the newly plugged in laptop. All other
computers in the network can see laptop, but laptop cannot access them
because the names of the other stations are not updated in the laptop's
network neighbourhood. Anyhelp?
