Simple Interest Calculation

I need to calculate the interest owed on a given dollar
amount (say 1,000) and given past due period (say 4 years)
at a given interest rate (say 10%). What function do I
use, or is there an easier way?

One way:

=1000*(1+10%)^4

another:

=FV(10%,4,0,-1000)
