Hi,

Just getting into this networking thing. I've successfully set up a 2 PC
home network. Both running XP Pro, have NIC each and are connected via CAT5
crossover. No router or hub. One PC has main broadband internet connection,
the other PC shares this. My simple question is does Norton Firewall that's
installed on host pc protect the client pc too? Or do I need a firewall on
each? My guess is the firewall is protecting the other pc on the network,
but want to make sure.

The host's firewall protects both computers from undesired incoming
traffic from the Internet from hackers, port scanners, etc.

If you configure it to do so, it can protect the host computer from
undesired outgoing traffic from your computer to the Internet from
spyware, Trojan horses, etc.

It can't protect the client PC from undesired outgoing traffic,
though. If that's important to you, install a firewall on the client,
too.

I think that when you use win xp internet connection shering, the firewall only protects the system that is connected to the internet derectly. That is the one that is connected to the broadband modem.

A firewall on the system that connects directly to the Internet
protects both computers against undesired incoming traffic from the
Internet.
