I just have a question about my fan. My computer hums in
a pulse-like fashion. It can even be heard downstairs. Is
this my fan causing this annoying hum, or something else
in my tower?

Would a silent fan help solve the problem? If so, any
recommendations for an Athlon 1700+ with two hard-drives.

Thank you.

First, you have to narrow down which fan is making the noise. The CPU fan, a
case fan, a power supply fan, or even a video card fan.

And make sure they are clean and in balance.

or simply case vibration

If you follow the other responses and determine it is a
case fan. Checkout the Compusa house brand, it was 12.99
but I was amazed at how quiet and how well it moved the
air.

A couple of bucks more than the chepo, but well worth it
in my book. Also includes a temp sensor to control the
operation.

I don't work for Compusa, was just very pleased with the
product.
