Hello
How the Security ID is working? How the system knows not to use SID which is already used in other Win XP Embedded or Win XP system? If 2 PC are not in local network after conecting them shall they make conflict

Best regard

Hi,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/xpehelp/htm
l/xeconcloning.asp

XPe does not know if SID is already used on other device, read previous link
for info how to make all device to have different SID.

You should not use devices with same SID on same network.

Hi
I don't understand why computer SID ALWAYS MUST be unique.

Examples:
1) In a system without network filesystem and without domain
controller (no lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, computerbrowser)
and the only communication done by applications using UDP and TCP.
What is the SID used for in this case.

2) In a system with network filesystem but only one computer
shares files. All other has the same set of users with the
same access rights on the share.
No Computer Browser service. (which translates
Computernames to Ipaddresses). Meaning (I think) that computer
names are not used. (I am using IP addresses in my "net use" commands).
What is the SID used for in this case.

I have tried to find information about this, but the only thing
I have found is statements like "every computer running Windows
XP is required to have a unique computer SID".

I don't want to use the cloning process if I don't have to.

My question is: Where can I find information about this.
(I have asked this before in this newsgroup but never got any answers).

Hi,

Who said that you must always use unique SID?

Like you said there are scenarios that do not require standard network
authentication.

So really it is up to you and your specific usage, after all you are
designing your system and only you can decide what should be used and what
must be used for your design.

Search MSDN, and systeminternals for more info about this "problem".
