When I try to shut dowm the computer a box with
END PROGRAM - rundll32.exe comes up. Another box comes up
saying This program is not responding. Does anyone know
what is going on here? Thanks.

Hi,

Some program is not terminating properly, it's not rundll32.exe, but rather
an application on the system that is invoking it to run a library file. Try
manually shutting down running applications and processes (hit
ctrl+shift+escape and use task manager) before initiating shutdown to see if
you can discover which is the culprit.

See if the troubleshooters from MVP Jim Eshelman can help as well, as he has
a list of known issues:

i'm not really sure whats wrong but try these steps in order . and see if one
works.
1.boot into safe mode and scan for viruses.
2.boot into safe mode and try to shutdown to see if the error appears
3.before u shutdown you should open up the taskmanager and record all the
files that are running and then start to close one file at the time for each
shutdown to elminate all the possibility.
good luck charcarlson
