Shutting down computer from XP

I just installed the full XP Pro version. I am operating
an AMD Athlon 2800 on a gigabyte K7 Triton MB with 1g
kingston ddr 333 ram. When I try to turn the computer
off, windows shuts down the system but, the system loops
and turns back on going back into windows. What could be
causing the problem?
