hi, my pc often shuts down and restarts on it own (usually in the middle of
something important)
I have run several virus and spyware scans, ok there it seems, fans running
fine, and memory seems ok. any hint or suggestions?
thanks in advance

There are a few things you could do:
-Check the power source, meaning the cord in the back of the computer, to
the wall outlet. This is usually the problem.
-If not, make sure you don't bump into the power button by accident.

thats all i know that might help. Sorry if i didnt help.

check the outlet with a voltometer check for sags and try replacing your
curret psu with a known good unit. The psu is the most likely cause in this
case. (A+/Network+)

This sounds more likely to be a heat related problem. You may wish to
remove the side panel of your computer and see if the problem goes away. It
is possible that one or more of your system fans has stopped working, or
that enough dust has acculmulated on the inside of your computer to impair
proper cooling.

I am surprised that anyone would post A+ and Network+ as credentials (they
teach it in junior high school); and then give advice that is obviously not
applicable.

thanks, about the only thing left to try is cleaning the dust out. probably
lots!!!!
I ran a few more checks, seems there was some spyware that wasn't caught on
previous runs, cleaned them out, still restats, but not as often.
