shutdown

recently when i shut down my computer, all of the lights on the front of the computer turn off but power to the mouse stays on and the monior keeps displaying the windows is shutting down screen. i have to hold the power button for several seconds for it to completly power off at this point.
its really annoying, any help appreciate
