I just got back from a friend's house where I was trying to figure out why
shutdown would hang on Windows XP Home Edition. While trying to follow a tip
from the KB I did a turn off computer rather than a restart and got the
following message on the windows is shutting down screen:
Updates are being installed (1 of 1)
which alternated with
Do not turn off or unplug your computer -- it will turn off automatically
I have never seen such a thing before. This has been going on for about an
hour and the machine has still not shut down. Should we just use the off
button or what?
I have no clue as to what update would be installing as they don't have
automatic update turned on. They are going to leave it until tomorrow
morning to see what happens but in the meantime I said I would try to figure
out what was going on.
Thanks.
