I have newly installed Windows XP Home (SP2) and when I try to shut down the
computer gets the screen with the Windows XP logo that says "It is Now Safe
To Turn Off Your Computer". I don't recall seeing anything like this since
I had Windows 95. Previously I had Windows ME and the computer would power
off without displaying that screen. Does anyone know how to get rid of that
screen and have the computer simply shut down and power off?

Thanks for the help...

Hi Ginger,

You don't need the shutdown troubleshooters for this. Go to the Control
Panel/Power Options, on the advanced tab enable the APM option. It is not
enabled by default in WinXP system and is needed when the system is not
fully ACPI compliant. If not, you get the shutdown screen you are
describing.

Thanks for all the help. I tried to do the easiest one first but I hit an
immediate roadblock. I looked in the Power Options in the Control Panel and
did not find an APM tab nor was there any mention of APM on the Advanced
tab. Just for grins I looked at another computer with XP that's working
fine and it had no mention of these in the Power Options window either. Am
I missing something? I will continue trying the other options but I had
hopes that this one might work for me right away. Does anyone know why this
option isn't showing up?
