My laptop continually shuts down after anything from about
30 seconds to 5 minutes working on the Internet.

The message I receive is .....

"Windows must restart because the remote procedure call
(RPC) service terminated unexpectedly"

Any ideas??

Blaster Virus. See:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.h
tml
And:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/securit
y/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
And keep your windows updated with critical updtates and run realtime virus
protection using a currently updated antivirus program.

Craig--you might have a virus, an then again maybe not.
I had a similar symptom on my laptop running XP Home.
I followed the advice that I might have a virus, and
reran NAV scan (From day one I have always updated
the virus defs before going on line!). No viruses found.
I downloaded and ran the blaster fix recommended for people
who are infected. No viruses found.

Ultimately I found that running the XP firewall and disabling
thruput for network processes other than the TCP/IP resolved
my issue.

Good luck--Steve
