Hi,
I recently upgraded from 98 to 2000 professional. The
computer does not completely shut down. The message, "It
is safe to turn off your computer", comes on and it seems
that the hard drive is shut down. However the power
indicator on the computer stays on and the computer's
power switch becomed disabled. The monitor stays on as
well. The only way to turn off the computer is to pull the
plug. Please help me if you can.

You have to load the APM driver (Automatic Power Management)
for your motherboard. It's on the CD you got with your PC.

try going into Control Panel
Power applet
Advanced an see if there's an APM tick box there
