Hi,

I am using Norton with windows xp (sp2) but have a random problem whilst
shutting down my pc:

When the blue "logging off / saving your settings" screen appears the
"crittical stop" sound is played - sometimes the below error message is also
displayed:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: ...\Common Files\Symantic Shared\Secutiry Center\SymWSc.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

This is totally random and doesnt happen all the time, my pc other than that
seems to run fine?

After contacting Norton they reckon that the problem is due to my
Oleaut32.dll file being the wrong version?

I have scanned my pc and found two, both of which are verions: 5.1.2600.2180
and are located in:

C:\WINDOWS\system32
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

Can anyone verify what norton is saying is correct and if i have the correct
versions of the file or not?

If i dont.... i have already had a look on the microsoft site and have no
idea what to do to update the file (or even find it)? So if you coyld help me
with this also i would be much appreciative.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - i will get back onto norton and try and sort it out.

Do you know what is causing norton to do this?

Cheers

Hi,

I have tried the search, as directed by symantec but the problem they
display about this file is not relevent to XP / not specific to my
situation. So i was a bit warry about making any hasty changes - thus came
here and found out my version of the file is ok. So it must be a norton
problem.

I have bounced back the problem to symatec, hopefully they will sort it out
as my version of norton (2002) is out of date. My subscription to the
definitions is about to run out and i was planning on upgrading to version
2005 if this problem is sorted out.

I will let you if i get a reply from symatec......

Thanks, I'll be interested in the outcome as I'm due to install Nortons on 3
computers next month.
You can email me at (e-mail address removed)
Just delete the NOSPAM from the email address.

No problem,

I havent hed a reply from norton yet, but as soon as i do i will let you
know what they say......
