I was having a problem with win xp and did a "REPAIR" using the ms disk. I
have did the repair a couple times before with no problems. This time it
was like pulling teeth. Took forever to complete it. When it started
everything seemed to be ok. When I tried to shut down, instead of getting
the usual choice of shutdown or reboot, a new box comes up called "Shut
down windows." Then I have to click at the end of the box and there is 4
choices. Log Off XXXXX, Shut Down, Restart, Stand by. Never
have seen anything like this. Maybe it did back in the doss days.

I am leery about doing a repair again, and would do a complete reinstall if
it wasn't for all of the programs I would have to reinstall that are
connected to windows.

I was having a problem at startup, where I had to click on my name. That
was fixed when Nepatsfan told me row to correct it. I have reinstalled
both MS service pack's 1 and 2. Any suggestions or should I try the
system restore? Thanks in advance.

What do you get if you "Log off" first and then go to the shut
down?.........you should be presented with 3 choices, Standy, Shutdown or
Restart.
Heirloom, old and maybe mine is
different

Thanks for reply,

I click log off, get a window and it ask, Are you sure you want to log
off? Then a log on window comes up and ask for a password. I have never
used a password on XP. There is 1 options and 1 shut down box Check
options and nothing happens. Check shut down and windows starts up again.
What a drag. I have found that it now takes 4 to 5 times longer for win to
start up now. I think maybe I should do a system restore and go back a week
or so when things were working. I may have to reinstall a program or 2.
What do you think? Thanks,
