Showing the top 5 highest scorers in a query, and the number they ranked

Is there a way to get a query to show the top 5 scorers in a STANDINGS
query. I have as many as 25 categories that have 5 payout spots. I
need to show the 5 winners for each category sorted highest to lowest,
including any ties. I'm able to do it in other ways but it is a longer
process, and time is a big issue when it comes to determining the
winners in a hurry.
