Showing contacts list in main window

I'm new to Vista home premium and Windows Mail....
In Outlook Express I could show my address book contacts in the left margin
of the normal main window, under the folder list - a handy way to select a
contact to send an email to as you could click the chosen name and an email
compose/send window opened with the contact's name in the "To" section....

How can I do the same in Windows Mail, get the contacts list in the left
margin, please?

That feature does not exist in WM.
It can be achieved by opening the Contacts folder and WM side by side,
resizing the windows to suit.
A contacts Gadget exists in Side bar.

Poor substitute, I agree.

BTW,
You can of course click on the To: of a new mail composition window to bring
up your Contacts.
