show usb connections

when I plug in a 'thumb' drive, i will see it in explorer. when i attach my
san disk mp3 player via a usb port, i do not se it at all.

any ideas?

it does make a sound when I connect it; it just doesn't show up

WHAT WOULD BE THE CORRECT DRIVER; I am using XP and have 1 ig of ram and 200 gig hd; If my thumb drive is visible, wouldn't all usb devices be read?
