Show unread messages in folders

When I get a new message sent to a folder by a rule, that folder does not
show that it has a new message in it.

Outlook Express 6 does indicate new messages in folders.

Is there an option to set for this function in Outlook?

It does this already by default. What version of Outlook are you using?

I'm using Outlook from the Office 2000 suite.

Outlook works okay when a new message enters a regular (non-sub) folder. The
folder turns bold and the number of new messages appears next to it.

But when a new message goes into a subfolder of a folder, the subfolder does
not expand (drop down below the regular folder) and show that it has a new
message in it.

Very puzzling

Only top level folders show the new mail count.
