On one machine running indows XP Media center, the Start Menu is shown
automatically after loggin on. But on another machine running XP Pro, it
doesn't.

I would like to enable it on the second machine as well, but I can't find
any setting anywhere that seems appropriate.

Try this:
Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! (Line 298)

Thanks for response, Frank,

Kelly's Tweaks are one of my frequently used bookmnarks.

I checked the specific one you mentioned and went through the description of
the various repair functions. My problem is not that the start "button" is
missing; the task bar shows normally.

What I was asking abut is the start "menu" itself that appears when you
press the start button. After the login process is complete, and all startup
programs have been run, the start menu appears as if the button was pressed.
This happens on the Windows XP machine, but not the XP Pro one.

I thinks it's handy because it lets the user know that the system is ready
for other work.

Joe
