Hello,

is there a trick disable this function globally, perhaps with a hidden
command line switch like /NoPreview vor the Preview Windows ?

Hello Diane,

thank you for this tip. But i have an additional question on that:
Uncheck Automatically group according to arrangement and Ok
your way back to the view. Grouping is now disabled for this view.
Repeat for each named view that you want to edit.

I can disable the grouping with this per folderview, like using the arrow in
the menu "show in groups". But this disables the grouping only per
folderview, not globally. Or i am wrong ?

Hallo,

i found this:
http://ask-leo.com/how_can_i_get_ou...he_reading_pane_off_and_to_stop_grouping.html
And for what it's worth, here's a quote from the Microsoft web site:
... changes to the Reading Pane cannot be made globally and must
be made to each folder individually. It is possible to start Outlook
with the reading pane turned off. Add "/safe:1" to the outlook command
line

This can't be the last information. There must be a way .. for globally
configuration ...
What Do you think ? Are u using "Grouping" ? :-)

Regards
Roger

If you run the cleanviews switch and change it in the Define views menu,
selecting named Views to modify, it applies to all folders using that view.
If you don't use the cleanviews switch first, it only applies to folders
where you never edited the view in the folder (or new folders). It also only
applies to the folders using that named view - there is not a global 'no
grouping' switch for all views, like there is for the preview pane.

If you click on the Arrange By header in a folder and uncheck Show in
Groups, it applies to that folder only.

start outlook with the /nopreview switch to disable it for all folders and
views. Note that this removes it from the menus and you won't be able to
enable it at all, short of deleting the outcmd.dat file to restore it. Also
note that if you are doing it for security reasons, the preview pane is
safer to use than opening messages...

The quote from the MS site isn't right and I'm not sure what exactly which
options they are talking about. <g> I'll try to get that clarified in the
article.

Hm

ok, i understand what you say, especially the "applies to all or one folder.

Now, I opend Outlook (once more) using the cleanview switch (and it worked
again in every subfolder, checked that, the grouping and the view like
preview pane is resetted like out-of-the-box) and modified the "view:
<messages>". Deselecting the checkbox "grouping" and confirmed with OK twice
the changes applied only to the current folder again (here: inbox).

I (cross-)checked the other folders, too, using the "Define current view"
switch. All checked folders are using the "view: <messages>", which were
reseted by using the /cleanviews option and are modified by me. (deselecting
grouping)

Works only for the current folder. Checked that on inbox and on some other,
recently manually added folders. A just now added, new folder, it worked
only for that folder again. Strange.

The /cleanviews works, but it seems to be that the modify doesn't applies
the fields to the folders which are using this view, like "view:
<messages>". Maybe a bug ?

Are I am to stupid ?!

Hello Diane,

seems to be an larger operation, so first i would like to thank you for your
time.

enable it at all, short of deleting the outcmd.dat file to restore it. Also

yes right. I am using this switch since Outlook 2003 :-)

Hehe, you will find that in: "Change how the Reading Pane looks and works",
it is only abougt the Reading Pane, not Grouping.
http://office.microsoft.com/de-de/assistance/HP052426951033.aspx

But i agree with you that this statement is completly wrong. I have disabled
the Reading Pane (i think it is the one which is the window on the right
side and default since OL2003). The Switch /NoPreview from Outlook XP works
here, too *g*

But i think, i got it clear for me now, thought about caching modus, but
this makes no change. Testet right now..
In the "Definde views" i deselected all "grouping" checkboxes. After that,
the inbox was empty and a timescale template like the journal was used.
Looked into "View / View by / actually view" there was suddenly an "view by
timescale", reselected to "messages" and all went fine. (including cacheing
mode).

The final knowlegde about is be to modify all views "including the older
than 7 days" and changed the view for the Inbox.
Because "messages" is applied to junger items. Didn't know that.

Thank you for your assistance.
