show desktop icon

How can I get the "show desktop icon" back on my system (start button and
quick launch toolbar). I had some files that were corrupted (virus/spyware
issues that are now resolved) and I had to use my Windows XP Home Ed. disk
to reinstall some of the files. I thought it would restore this icon too,
but it hasn't - can anyone help me? I miss that little icon!

Copy and paste the following to notepad and save it as showdesktop.scf
in the folder C:\Documents and settings\username\Program
data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick launch

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
