It was on my lower left side launch bar for years... now it's
mysteriously gone.

How can I get it back ?

Thanks,

Restore "Show Desktop" from Rick Rogers:

Copy/paste the below into notepad, then click file/"save as" and call it
"show desktop.scf" and drop it on the desktop. You can drag it from
there to the quicklaunch bar.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=EXPLORER.EXE,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Hi

Please see the following link to Kelly's web site:

Alternatively, you can use WinKey + D.

Is there much difference between that suggestion and WinKey + M
(minimize)?
It looks like WinKey + D accomplishes the same thing, with the added
bonus that repeating the action causes all of the applications to be
restored.

Hrmph. Makes me wonder why WinKey + M even exists!

It looks like WinKey + D accomplishes the same thing,

"List of the keyboard shortcuts that are available in Windows XP"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301583/en-us (excerpt)

| - Windows Logo+D (Display the desktop)
| - Windows Logo+M (Minimize all of the windows)

Note that [WinKey]+[M] does *not* minimize modal dialog boxes.

Create a text file in Notepad as follows:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the Quick launch bar.
Or just click on this link:

Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch (Line 61)

Also note that you can do this with a keyboard shortcut: the combination of
the Windows key + D or the Windows key + M.
