I have been using Outlook Express and just upgraded to Office Professional
2003. Should I install Outlook 2003 in place of Outlook Express. Which is the
better program.

If I install Outlook 2003, will it copy my messages and address book?

Depends upon what you need it to do. Outlook 2003 has a lot of features
(Calendar, Tasks, etc.) that Outlook Express doesn't have. Outlook Express
does newsgroups (like this one) which Outlook 2003 doesn't do.

I prefer Outlook 2003 personally, but that's what I'm used to and I make
extensive use of the calendar and tasks (and journal) functions.

Yes.

First, Outlook doesn't replace Outlook Express. They're two compleyely
different apps and they do different things, although their functionality
does overlap.

Second, as to which is better, it depends on what you need to do. If you
want the calendaring, more complete contact handline, and task management
functions of Outlook, then you'll have to use Outlook. Outlook Express has
no calendar or task capability and its contact management is not as
complete. If you want it just for email, Outlook Express may be a better
choice. I use both.

If you have Office 2003 on your machine, then Outlook may already be
installed. If it's not, however, the installaton of Outlook generally asks
if you want to transfer your mail and addresses. If it doesn't, it's not
too hard to accomplish.
