Suppose, hypothetically, that I currently have a pirated version of XP Pro
and I want to buy a legit version. I could buy a full version, or, for less
money, I could by the upgrade. From what I can see of the product
description of the upgrade, I need to have ME or 98 installed, which I can
do, but I'd really rather not. If I try to install the XP upgrade, without
ME or 98 already installed, won't it just ask me for the ME or 98 CD
(assuming that it might not recognize the current pirated version of XP Pro)
for verification? I'm thinking that maybe they listed that requirement
because you need some sort of operating system to run the install. But then
again, if the disk got blown away, and I needed to re-install XP, I'd like
to just be able to do it all from the upgrade CD and then load the ME or 98
disk when prompted for verification.
