thanx for the reply, but it's not what i was looking
for. google asks me the same question "did you mean
svchost.exe?"
it is not "svchost.exe", that process is also running.
this process shows up in the device manager
as "shost.exe". my firewall alerts me that it is trying
to access the internet, and it gives a specific ip
address, but i can't get any info on it either. they are
two different processes. i can't find any information on
it anywhere.

thanx for the suggestion! i did it, and everything runs
fine. why did someone in an earlier reply say
that "SVChost" is a "known" virus? from the microsoft
doc's that i read, it seems to be a "genuine" part of
windows. what's up with that?
