When looking at this site, I look to do it through a newsreader rather than
the web browser, i.e. I go through the msnews.microsoft.com News Server,
microsoft.puublic.access.gettingstarted Newsgroup. Only trouble is I
haven't figured out how to get there with a Desktop Shortcut or a
Favorite -- it's taking me about a dozen clicks to get there now. I'm
using Outlook 2003 for my email and Outlook Express for my Newsreader.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Jack

In Outlook Express, create a Newsgroup Account (under Tools | Account). Once
you've done that, you can subscribe to newsgroups of interest to you, and
they'll always be available for you to search when you open OE.

BTW, you REALLY want to avoid putting your real e-mail address in
newsgroups. There are all sorts of unscrupulous "harvesters" that scrape
e-mail addresses from the newsgroups and sell them to spammers. When you're
creating the newsgroup account, the 2nd screen will ask you for your e-mail
address. Munge it (look, for example, at what I have for my e-mail:
NOSPAM_djsteele@NOSPAM_canada.com, which can be interpretted relatively
easily by a human. Others are far more creative in their munging...)

Thanks for the speedy reply.

But I did subscribe some time ago, and I'm lazy - To get here, I have to:

Double click the desktop icon for 'Outlook Express'
Click on 'Read News'
Click 'Newsgroups'
Pick the msnews icon (since I have several others)
Click the 'Subscribed' tab
Pick the newsgroup I want from the list
Click on the 'Go To' Button

At the last step, if I accidentally hit the OK button or double click (which
is kinda instinctive), the newsgroup opens up with all of my 'watches' and
'marked-as-reads' gone.

So what I was hoping for was one icon on my desktop that would take me
straight to the newsgroup I wanted.

Your second comment is very interesting. I hadn't realized til now that my
email address could easily be seen. Is there any reason to put any address
at all in the account? Or at least is there any reason not to just make it
something like (e-mail address removed)?

Go under View | Layout and make sure the Folder List checkbox is selected.
That puts a tree into OE that will let you easily pick which group you want.

For more help than this, you might want to find an OE newsgroup, since this
really doesn't have anything to do with Access, the database product that's
part of Office Professional.

That worked great, Doug. Thanks for the help.
