Hi
My problem is that when i put a spreadsheet (or its
shortcut) on the desktop and try to start excel by
clicking on it i get the error saying %document% is not a
valid 32 bit document. if i run excel first i can open the
speadsheet.
If anyone has any suggestions of what i can try i would be
most grateful
Thanks
Danny

I've never seen that error, but I have seen errors with trying to open files by
double clicking on a shortcut (or from windows explorer).

First thing I'd try is:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

If that didn't work, then I'd try creating a new shortcut and seeing if that
helped after the changes.

It works for me. How are you putting the shortcut to the file on your
desktop? Exactly how? HTH Otto
