Hello,

is there a way to use the normal icons for shortcutting applications in the
desktop, instead of the shortcut icons ? (the ones with the little pointer
bottom-left)

Thanks

Yes, Download and install TweakUI for windows xp from
microsoft, goto the explorer tab, and u can remove the
little pointers.

A shortcut is a shortcut, a program is a program. Both have/use the same
icon to display what program it is. There are no shortcut icons and normal
icons. If you install the program to the desktop you could then just click
the programs .exe file instead of a shortcut to the .exe, but you don't want
to do that, not even sure why you would do that. You can however change the
way a shortcut icon looks in the shortcuts properties or using tweakui for
xp you can get rid of the little white arrows, if that's all you really
want.

No, these aren't separate icons. They are just the normal icons
with a shortcut arrow overlayed on them.

You can get rid of the arrows with a registry edit, or more
easily and more safely by using the free TweakUI, downloadable as
part of Microsoft PowerToys at

However, my recommendation is that you do *not* do this. The
arrows serve an important function--providing quick visual
identification of a shortcut. If you remove the arrows, you run
the substantial risk that sooner or later you will delete
something you wanted to keep, thinking that you were just
deleting a shortcut to it.

Ken, wouldn't it be better not to keep any programs on your desktop?
