Whenever I type a capital n in excel, word or anything, it acts as a macro
and moves my cursor to the left margin and up a line. its so irritating. does
anyone know what this is? Thanks.

Nothing to do with Windows. I would try an Excel or
MS Office newsgroup - that's where the Excel experts
are found.
 
unfortunately it happens in everything even google. but i will try your
suggestion thanks.

You don't happen to have one of those annoying Gateway "Anykey" keyboards, do you?

This symptom sounds as if you've assigned a macro to the key combination
<shift>-n. Typically, this is either implemented by a "special" keyboard or by
some "hotkey" application you've installed.

If the above doesn't ring a bell, what brand name is on your keyboard (and model,
if available -- look on the bottom). Also, restart your computer; start *one*
application and confirm that you have the <shift>-n problem; press
<ctrl><alt><delete> and let us know the names of all of the processes that are
running.
