I have been trying to install XP Pro Sp2 onto my new computer which has a
SATA2 drive. It would get stuck at 34 min which I know is where hardware
sticks. I looked at what some MVP's replied to about the possible solution
but to view the text files you have to hit Shift + F10 which on my mobo
doesn't work. MSI K9N Neo-F mobo 1000MHz, OCZ 1GB ram DDR2 667, AMD 2.4 AM2
socket dual core, gigabyte video ati x1300 PCI express16, sony dvd/cd burner
ide, nec floppy ide, wd caviar se wd1600js sata 2 160gb. Please don't tell
me the same response for the 34 minute hardware sticking point. I have tried
those keys at all points of the boot process.

Thankyou for your help,

I have no idea of what others have told you, but in cases such as
yours when an OS refuses to install I strip the machine down to bare
essentials KVM, HDD, optical drive and one RAM module.
Have you tried installing like that ?.

Thank you in advance for replying to my post!
Forgive me gentlemen, I am severely put off with this situation and I
left out a few details. I have the computer assembled with the bare
necessities, 1 stick of ram, a regular pci card ( I removed the PCI ex16),
fdd, hdd, and dvd/cd burner combo unit. My keyboard is ps2 my mouse is usb
but I have a ps2 adapter attached to it.
I was prevously pointed the the knowledge base answer that refers to the
34 minute sticking point which is usually caused by hardware. In the KB
answer it tells you to look at the setup text files MS creates while
installing. It also tells you to get to these files press Shift + F10 to get
a command prompt, this is the problem I am having those key presses do not do
anything. I can get to my bios and start the install but I always get stuck
at the 34 minute point. How do I get to these text files is what I need to
know becuase in them they contain the information that will tell me what
hardware is causing me the problems.

Thanks,

Don't have an answer for you regarding Shift+F10 but you are doing all
the right things here, I would also try the following if you haven't already

1. test the RAM with memtest86 http://www.memtest86.org
2. test HDD with manufactures diagnostic tool
3. visually inspect the motherboard caps for leakage/damage
4. make sure the CPU fan is spinning
5. carefully go over the BIOS settings, even set them all to default/safe
boot
