Kevin

I crated a Data Validation Dropdown list and it works great, the trouble is
when I Protect the sheet then I can not add any more text to the drop down
text. If I try to add more text to my description it just show me the drop
down list. When is not protected I can type more text(info) after I have
selected .
Also when I password protect a sheet with a pivot table it will not work!
I'm not allowed to select form the dropdown boxes and it will not refresh
with getting an error, is this normal?
Thanks for your help.

In excel 2000 and below it is. In excel 2002 I think you have more control,
but I don't know if it will handle either of those situations.

you need to unlock the cells that contain the dropdown
validation list before you protect the sheet. THis is
done with Format->Cells->Protection-> uncheck Locked.
THen protect the sheet.

Hi

You need to unlock all the cells that you wish to be able
to change PRIOR to locking your spreadsheet.

For example, if you want to be able to change the data in
cells A1:B10 but leave all the other cells locked, then
highlight the range A1:B10 and click on Format, Cells,
Protection tab and then deselect the Locked check box.

Click OK. Now protect your sheet and you should be able
to make the changes.

Hope this helps.
