I have tried many times to share my cable Internet connection on a pc and a
laptop.
Been thru the wizards and setups and only one of the two has inet access. I
get the limited or no connectivity message, which I've downloaded a patch.
They both run XP, 1 home, 1 pro.
Help!
If you're connecting through a hub, not a broadband router, you need
to get two IP addresses from your cable service provider to get both
computers connected to the Internet at the same time. With that setup
run a firewall on both computers to protect them from hackers on the
Internet.
Here are two better alternatives:
1. Replace the hub with a broadband router. It can share a single IP
address between both computers, and it acts as a firewall.
2. Put two network cards in one of the computers (one for the cable
modem and one for connecting to the hub) and enable Internet
Connection Sharing on the cable modem connection. Make sure that the
cable modem connection is protected by a firewall.
