Hi
I wish to share program files on my Dell Laptop running XP home SP2 with my
desktop computer via a wireless connection. The sharing options are greyed
out because the files are used by the OS. Is there anyway around this it is
most inconveient.
Any help much appreciated

You can access the entire root directory, if you wish, by using the Admin
Share, like this:

\\computername (or IP Address)\c$

But if a file is in use, you will not be able to access it. You can share
program data, but not the program files on another networked computer, unless
you are using Terminal Services in Application Mode. But, I am not quite
clear on what you are trying to achieve here.

Thanks for your reply.
All I wish to do is run an application such as a game or excel which has a
folder under program files eg. c:\program files\FS9\fs9.exe
When I attept to share the progrm files folder it is greyed out and with the
explanation; options are disables because the OS uses the files in this
folder.
Regards
John

In many (most?) cases, if you want to run an app on two PCs, it must be
installed on each PC. Installation creates pointers on the PC which are
unique to that PC.
