I have one email account(from my ISP) that I share with my
wife. In Outlook that I have set up for her in her own XP
user account, I have a rule that filters incoming email to
put all my emails into a separate folder. Can I now access
this folder from Outlook when I am using my own XP user
account (on the same PC)? This would make life simpler.
All mail in all folders in Outlook is kept in a single file, called a
Personal Folders file. The file type for this file os ".pst". You need to
place this file in a shared area, like a (Windows) folder under Shared
Files. Have your wife close Outlook and then locate the PST file in her
account (C:\Documents and Settings\{hername}\Application
data\Microsoft\Outlook\something.pst, where "something" may be "Outlook" or
some other file name). She'll need to enable showing Hidden files and
folders. She can then create a folder under Shared Files (like "Shared
Files\Outlook") and move the file there. When she starts Outlook the next
time, it will complain it can't find her Personal Folders file. She can
then browse to the file in Shared Files and it will open.
On your account, modify your mail profile (Control Panel>User Accounts>Mail)
to point to the shared PST and when you open Outlook, you'll have access to
the same mail store your wife uses.
