I have two computers hooked up to a network - a desktop
hardwired to my router/modem and a laptop connected
wirelessly to the router/modem.

I run Outlook on the desktop to download and access all
my emails and contacts, but i'd also like to be able to
access all this data on my laptop. Basically, i want to
synchonise my email and contacts on both machines in real
time.

Is there any way to do this?

I have never found a way to do this with stand-alone
Microsoft products over the last 6 years (unless you
install an Exchange Server!). There are a few
aftermarket solutions like Outlook Team
(www.outlookteam.com). There are a few other similar
solutions, but none work very well -- at least in my
experience. I think Sharepoint is also supposed to help
with this... Good luck.

In order to have Outlook available on mutliple systems you need to have a central place to pull that data e.g. Exchange Server. As James indicated in his response

If this is for a small business then I would suggest SBS which include an Exchange server that is designed for 75 desktops. However, for an individual a few solutions you may want to try the following which may not be the only or the best solution but I have seen it done

1) If you have a pocket PC - you could synchronize it with both system. This is alot of work

2) I personally, remote control the system that I do not have Outlook configured to receive email. So if I am on my laptop I remote control the other systme using either Terminal Services, VNC or Windows XP has a remote tool also. This is probably your best bet

3) The other suggestion would be to use only one system. But this may not be possible

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any question
