Mike

I know that it is better to split than share. I plan to split, I swear.
However, in the meantime, is there a reason why I could easily share when I
was running Access 2003 with XP and now that I'm running Access 2007 in Vista
Home Premium I cannot seem to share? I can share Word files, and other
files, but not an Access database. Thanks.

Hi Mike,

You might try installing service pack 1 for Office 2007, which was just
released today (Dec. 11, 2007). This article possibly describes your
situation:

There is an advertised hotfix, but this hotfix *may* be included in SP1 (I
don't know yet). So, try installing SP-1 first. Then see if you end up with
the same version, or higher version, of Mrxsmb20.sys (record your initial
version to verify).

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your help. I installed SP-1, and it seemed to make no difference.
I am going to try the hotfix.

If it's a new Office install, maybe the default is to open the db in
exclusive mode instead of shared? You can look at the setting in the
options, or when you open a db from within Access.

Hi there,

Yes, download this hotfix, it definitely resolves the issue.
Issues that you may encounter when you open or are using a Microsoft
Office Access database on a computer that is running Windows Vista

Else you can also try the following. This is the same thing that the
hotfix does:

1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press
ENTER. If you
are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type
the
password, or click Allow.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer
\Parameters
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type SMB2 , and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 0 (zero), and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
8. Restart the computer.

Do let me know how this goes for you.

I would also like to mention that this problem is not fixed in Office
2007 SP1. Because this is a problem with the Vista OS not Office.

Good luck
