Mal

I have a problem since I installed SP1 on one of my two networked WinXP
Home computers. When I try to access the Program Files on the SP1
computer from the non-SP1 computer I get the message "access denied".
When I open "Program Files Properties" of the SP1 computer, under the
"Sharing" tab, the Sharing options are grayed out. Beside an "i" balloon
icon at the bottom of the window is this note: "All the options on this
tab are disabled because this folder is used by the operating system".
This wasn`t a problem before I installed the SP1 update. Any ideas on
how I can resolve this problem? TIA

Mal,

The "Program Files" folder is reserved by the OS, and requires administrative
authority to be accessed. With XP Home, and Simple File Sharing, it can't be
accessed across the network.

Were you able to access "Program Files" across the network before SP1?

Yeah, I`ve always been able to access program files on all three of my
computers from any other computer on the network (the third computer is
running Win 98SE). I just tried and had no problem accessing both prgram
files on the 98SE and non-SP1 from the SP1 computer. It`s just the
program files on the SP1 computer that cannot be accessed from the other
two computers. As stated this occurred only after installing SP1 on the
one computer.
I`ll read the munging thing and apply.
